Day 9: House of Bill, King of Home Improvement

This is Bill:

Bill is Lea's stepdad. He used to build post offices. Now he's here to help us. Thanks, Bill!!

Let me back up, though..

We get up at 3:30 to drive back from Mobile (or, as we call it, The Pit) and, after a short nap, get to work. We tackle the kitchen wallpaper with our primer, which we just discovered is oil based.

Let me just say: oil based anything sucks. I don't know why they even still make it, now that we've invented this thing called 'latex'. I mean, isn't using oil-based paint similar to using a dot-matrix printer? Anyway, the kitchen is now vastly improved, especially that awful spot around the window, and is awaiting a layer of paint.

We also slapped up a second coat of paint in the master bedroom in record time. We did it without any protective paint and just didn't cut too close to the edges. Then, we taped stuff off until Lea's mom and Bill arrive.

Today, Bill put up chair rail in the hobby room. Check it out:

That rail will be primed and painted white along with the rest of the moulding in the house. The rail that'll go up in the master bedroom tomorrow we're going to leave in a natural finish.

Meanwhile, the Moms are plotting...

What are they up to? Maybe we'll find out tomorrow.

We got more done, including the 'drag' finish on the top part of the guest bedroom. It turned out like this:

We'll take a look at it tomorrow in daylight and decide if we want to go ahead and do it to the bottom of the room as well.

Finally, Lea started work on repainting the fireplace.

More to come tomorrow!
